It's Great to Be a...

Sorry Tom...but I think the voters did the right thing. Championship games are for champions, not conference runner-ups.

Of course, we'll probably get killed, but that's not the point. For Meyer to get the boys in the championship game in year two is quite the accomplishment. Certainly ahead of schedule as far as most Gator fans are concerned. I was hoping for an SEC championship this year...getting in the big one is gravy.

Depends on what the BCS is for. If it's to pit the "two best teams" in a championship game, they missed the boat.

If it's to pit the "two best teams which haven't played each other yet" -- they may have nailed it.

If the idea is that only conference champs should be eligible, Michigan then, by definition, is being penalized for the difficulty of its conference schedule.

In love and so there,

Mike,

Normally a content lurker, your post hit my weak spot for commenting. Although normally I try to downplay any cred given to the SEC for football, I, as a tried and true Buckeye alum, will give agreement to your Gators inclusion in the title game. We already beat that-team-up-north. I was sentimentally pulling for the little guy, Boise state, but that's Ok. We look forward to beating the Gators, too. And now I'm wishing for a repeat title game in March, as both Florida and OSU have b-ball teams that could get there this year, but I'm not allowed to talk about that because my husband is a Kentucky fan and is not used to talking about Ohio State during his sport.

While I'm speaking up, we appreciate your blog and your site and are encouraged by it. Thanks.

Just another perfect example of why you can't spell BCS without BS. Personally, I'm a Penn State fan. Of all the Florida teams, I like the Gators. But, when I look at that deer-in-the-headlights look that Chris Leak has during every big game I can't help but think that Big Blue would easily dispatch the Gainesville gang. I will be rooting for the Gators--I can't stand Ohio State and Jim Tressel with his neat little sweater vest.

I'm personall hoping that this year's debacle further's the debate to getting a college football playoff. How cool would it be if Ohio State, Florida, Michigan and one other played in a 4 team tourney and settle it on the field. I'm actually for a 8 team playoff.

Either way, we'll see you on Jan. 8 for what I hope is a game for the classics.

Brant, I'd like to see you prove that. How do you really know Michigan is the better team? Statistically, Florida had the more difficult schedule. Michigan struggled with Ball State. They didn't really blow anyone of consequence off the field, with the exception of Notre Dame. Sure, they probably have a better offense (which is what generally gives the impression that one team is "better" than the other), but I don't think their defense and special teams matches up to the Gators.

I'm in agreement with Chris, an 8-team playoff would be great. Not normally a Terry Bowden fan, but I liked his article yesterday - http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=tb-bracket120406&prov=yhoo&type=lgns.

Mike, it took a LOOOOONG time, but we finally have a legit area of disagreement in life. This is cool, because now we can seize on it and flame each other!

I can't "prove" Michigan is better, and agree that Florida's defense is terrific. But Michigan barely lost to the top team in one of the toughtest places to play in the country, if not THE toughest, running up an amazing 39 points in the process.

I don't think Florida beats tOSU at home. I don't think Florida takes it to the wire. Can't prove it, but pretty confident.

Both teams had weak out of conference schedules, and both had bad games against far lesser opponents. Florida lost to Auburn.

Michigan was second to OSU after they played, and suddenly moved down after Florida did the expected, and beat an Arkansas team that was completely humiliated by USC. I don't understand why they suddenly moved down.

Lastly, I think Illinois should also play in the national championship, because they played tOSU, too, and Florida didn't.
