It's in the Genes

What does it say when your almost 5-year-old son's favorite shows are Extreme Engineering and How's It Made?

I always thought the fact that my brother and I turned out to be engineers to be a fluke of genetics, an anomaly from a family where the only engineers have been in-laws. But there must be some nerd-dom in there somewhere...because Jackson has it bad.

Reminds me of what the Pediatrician said about our kid.

You know - I sucked in math. My wife sucks in math. My daughter sucks in math. My middle son sucks in math. But our youngest, now age 13, not only doesn't suck in math - he is like this math genius! Seriously. My funniest recent memory related to this happened about a year ago... my two boys and I went to a garage sale to browse. We were all in different parts of the sale, looking for stuff - when all three of us, almost in unison, shouted - "all right!" In my hands was an old Monkees record. In my oldest boy's hands (age 14 at the time) was a frisbee. In my youngest son's hands (age 12 at the time) was a CALCULUS BOOK!

Guess the nut doesn't fall far from the tree...

Yeah, we all noticed that about Jackson pretty much right away. The Bob the Builder ("Bob da bewda") mania was over the top. A clear bias even back in diapers. We still remember that impression of him banging the legos with the hobby-horse hammer saying "Nails! Hammer! Holes! CUT!" Anton was like 'Whoah'.
